SHATTERED GLASS About 15 years ago I parked my car in Japantown in SF on a rainy day for just a few minutes to mail a letter. When I got back, the window was punched out, glass all over the street. Yet, weirdly, the only thing taken was my appointment book. And that event ended up being a huge turning point. Hey Im not minimizing the feeling of violation, yet It was like when the karma of that calendar left, my whole life opened up to a new chapter. God just wiped out the old. Because, honestly, sometimes at a turning point, the universe takes a sacrifice. A theft, a break-in, an abrupt loss. Its weird that way. Like the fragrant ghee and rice that are offered to sacred fires on Indian holidays. I remember my friend Chris Northrup had a beautiful necklace taken at a turning point the same way. This is all so different than thinking how could this happen to YOU? It happens and then you offer to the Divine to see the message. So tonight, all these years later, as I came out from yoga in Berkeley, I found my window smashed. Yep. And the parallels are not lost. A rainy night and...only ONE thing taken: a paper bag in my trunk with two copies of Outrageous Openness. I guess someone really, really wanted that book :)) So I wonder if a new chapter is opening again. I had the SAME feeling that occurred 15 years ago, something had left, ...and something new was definitely coming. The sacrifice was offered. Maybe its the same reason Jews break a glass at a wedding. It can sure change how you look at stuff like this. May sound crazy to someone who hasnt read the book, but if you have you may know EXACTLY what I mean :) -Tosha Silver
