SHAYMEN EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN FC Halifax Town extended their unbeaten run in the Vanarama Conference as they comfortably dispatched Chester FC 3-0 at the Swansway Stadium on Saturday. The Shaymen went into the game knowing that they could spend another weekend top of the table providing they picked up at least a point, but they never looked like taking anything less than all three. Halifax were dominant throughout, well taken goals from Richard Peniket after 34 minutes, Scott Boden with 20 minutes to go and then Matty Pearson in the 83rd minute demonstrated once more that the Shaymen’s attacking threat will be up there with some of the best in the league. Town were able to see out the remainder of the game with ease as Chester failed to test the away goal any further. Ben Tomlinson scored the vital goal on 61 minutes to seal Lincoln City`s 3-2 win over Braintree Town and maintain the Imps unbeaten start to the new season and move them up to third in the table. Goals from Sean Newton after 7 minutes and Hamza Bencherif on 21 minutes gave Lincoln a 2-0 lead at half-time. However a dramatic second half saw the match turn on its head. Braintree won a penalty 3 minutes after the restart with Tony Diagne adjudged to have pulled back Jordan Cox. Diagne was sent-off and Kenny Davis stepped up to score and put Braintree back into the game. City refused to be beaten and Tomlinson charged forward with a solo effort to put Lincoln back in the lead just past the hour-mark. It proved vital as Braintree scored a late goal in the depths of injury-time through Mitch Brundle. Charlie MacDonald’s double made it four in as many games since moving to Barnet in the summer and the 33-year-old could have finished with a hat-trick against Nuneaton Town, had he not seen a second half penalty saved. The former Brentford hitman put the Bees ahead after 8 minutes from the penalty spot, doubling up just 5 minutes later following slack marking at a corner kick. Andy Yiadom’s marauding foray down the right-hand flank was rewarded with spot-kick after midfielder Anton Brown deliberately handled the full-back’s cross. MacDonald made no mistake from 12 yards, steering low beyond Reice Charles-Cook to hand Barnet the perfect start. The Bees did not have to wait long for a second, taking advantage of some slack defending from a corner to double their lead. Lee Cook’s corner from the right was allowed to float all the way to MacDonald at the far post and after seeing his initial effort kept out by Charles-Cook, the Barnet number ten made no mistake at the second attempt. Wrexham have continued their fine start to the campaign with a 3-2 victory at the Impact Arena against a still point-less Alfreton Town. Joe Ironside gave bottom-of-the-table Alfreton a 5th minute lead, but that opener was quickly cancelled out 8 minutes later by Louis Moult, who charged down a clearance from Cameron Dawson before tapping into the net. The visitors were having the better of possession and they made it 2-1 on 27 minutes when Blaine Hudson met Elliott Durrells cross to head home at the far post. The Welsh outfit seized full control of the match just before the break when Connor Jennings netted from close range to leave Alfreton staring a fourth defeat in the face. Wrexham continued their dominance at the start of the second half but after the hosts had managed to avoid conceding a fourth, they went close through Ironside, but he could only place an effort wide at the back post. Alfreton pulled a goal back with 16 minutes remaining when Paul Clayton got in front of his marker to send a header past Andy Coughlin to increase hope of a first point of the season. Tom Shaw went close to an equaliser in the closing stages, but after Alfreton had Luke Graham sent-off in the final minute for a second bookable offence, Wrexham hung on to record their third win of the season. Grimsby Town picked up their first win of the season in fine style with a six-goal rout of last season`s Promotion play-off finalists Gateshead at the International Stadium - the Tynesiders first defeat of 2014/15. The Mariners were gifted the perfect start when defender Craig Baxter’s own goal put them ahead with just 6 minutes on the clock. The returning Scott Neilson doubled Grimsby’s lead after 15 minutes, before Lenell John-Lewis’ first goal of the season came 3 minutes before the interval to make it 3-0. Neilson made it four within a minute of the restart, before Marcus Maddison pulled one back for the home side on 55 minutes. Gateshead looked for a second goal but substitute Craig Disley made it 5-1 in the 84th minute and John-Lewis second of the game came in added time to complete the scoring and go a long way towards erasing the memories of last season’s painful play-off defeat in the north-east. Elliot Bradbrook missed a penalty as Dartford shared a goalless draw with Torquay United at Princes Park. The visitors had the better of the first half chances, forcing several good saves from Darts `keeper Jason Brown and hitting the woodwork. Dartford, though, looked good in the second period only for Bradbrook to waste the games best chance when he failed from 12 yards. Nathan Collier played a long ball down the right-hand side, Tom Bradbrook got the wrong side of Aaron Downes and he was clearly hauled down by the Torquay defender. Bradbrook stepped up but his penalty clipped the top of the bar and sailed behind. It also finished 0-0 between Macclesfield Town and Kidderminster Harriers – two teams who are yet to taste defeat this season to date. As well as maintaining their unbeaten start, Kiddy also continued their perfect defensive record, having yet to concede a goal in 2014/15. The Silkmen had the better of the second half at the Moss Rose, but were unable to penetrate a stubborn Harriers defence. A 30-yard cracker from Ollie Clarke handed AFC Telford United a third straight defeat of the season at The Memorial Ground against Bristol Rovers, for whom this was a first win since suffering relegation. Clarke`s goal came 10 minutes into the second half and knocked the stuffing out of the newly-promoted Bucks, who had given as good as they got up to that point. Nathan Elders winner secured ten-man Dover Athletic victory over fellow newcomers Eastleigh - their first win since gaining promotion as play-off winners. Eastleigh took a 16th minute lead when James Constable squared for Jack Midson to tap in his second of the season. Stefan Payne brought Dover level minutes before half-time, netting Sean Francis ball past `keeper Ross Flitney from close range. Sean Raggett saw red for pushing Constable in first half injury-time. But with 12 minutes remaining Elder headed home Craig Stones cross at the far post to secure victory. Luke Fosters injury-time header secured Southports first win of the season against Altrincham at the Merseyrail Stadium. The defender got on the end of new signing Johnny Gormans free-kick to seal their first win since April. The Sandgrounders opened the scoring after 20 minutes as Richard Brodie reacted first after John Marsdens header had hit the Altrincham post. Steven Gillespie volleyed in a leveller from a corner just past the hour-mark and looked to have earned a point before Fosters winner in the first minute of time added on. Welling United are still searching for their first win of 2014/15 as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Park View Road by Woking. The Wings started well and were rewarded when they took a 33rd minute lead when Harry Beautyman, who had gone close seconds earlier, fired home left-footed after good work from Jake Gallagher. But the Cards pulled back on level terms with less than 10 minutes remaining when Joe McNerney set up Adam Newton to head past Lee Butcher from six yards.
