SHELBY COUNTY, Ind.—Fairland Road/C.R. 400 North will close to traffic for up to two weeks between the west limits of Fairland and C.R. 825W as soon as Monday (MARCH 17). The closure is needed to facilitate removal of trees from a section of C.R. 400 being rebuilt under a $4,475,000 Local Public Agency (LPA) project sponsored by Shelby County. Beaty Construction Inc. is the Fairland Road Project’s prime contractor. The Boggstown-based company underbid six other area contractors during last month’s contract letting. The Federal Highway Administration pays for 80 percent of LPA project costs. Shelby County, the LPA sponsor of the Fairland Road Project, is responsible for 20 percent in matching funds. The Indiana Department of Transportation administers federal monies and assures compliance with FHWA standards. This Shelby County project includes: • full-depth reconstruction of 8000 feet of C.R. 400N and 4000 feet of London Road (2.2 total miles) to accommodate two 12-foot lanes with 4-foot shoulders and moderate slopes for greater safety • realignment of the C.R. 400N/London Road intersection—moving it about 100 feet to the east —and relocating the nearby railroad crossing • construction of a 313-foot concrete box beam bridge at Sugar Creek After trees are removed, utility companies will continue to relocate their services away from the construction zone through much of the 2014 construction season. The contract completion date is in October of 2015.
