SHOW US ONE REASON WHY BASSEY EKO EWA SHOULD BE RETURNED TO THE NATIONAL ASSEMBLY AND WE WILL SHOW YOU 100 REASONS WHY HE SHOULD NOT 2015 Elections have come and we are once again witnessing horse trading between and among the political gladiators. The Political melodrama that goes with it makes a huge laugh. From legislators who hardly visit their constituents to those who cannot contribute a word to the debates on the plenary of the houses to those who cannot allow even their electorates to have a visual contact with them immediately after elections till next elections year etc. In Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency, we are confronted by yet another melodrama that could be described as ‘Mega Drama’. A Federal Constituency shared between Abi Local Govt. and Yakurr Local Govt, Yakurr local Govt has been on the seat for all the 16 years since the 7th Democracy came to be in 1999. The first 8 years were occupied by Chief Hon. Obeten Okorn Obeten, while the last 8 years have been occupied by the incumbent, Rt Hon Bassey Eko Ewa. What makes it a mega drama is the re emergence of Hon Bassey Ewa with his third term agenda. In all imaginations what could have informed Bassey that he is going to get the votes of Yakurr people or even ugep people per se talk less of Abi People? This is a big question that is begging for an answer from all well meaning people of Yakurr/Abi Federal Constituency. Could it be that Bassey is seeking a third term so that we can compensate him for the Bills he never sponsored in the National Assembly, or is it for the number of trips he has driven his people to confusion by his political leadership, or is it for the dirty slap he landed Dr Alex Egbona? Bassey’s emergence in the political scene has been an albatross that hangs on the Yakurr Nation for no offence other than the fact that Yakurr people trusted the wrong man in him. Before his time, Yakurr had had Political leaders who made Yakurr the centre of gravity by the quality of politics they played.These noble sons include, Dr Okoi Arikpo, Chief Neil Ubi Ofem, Chief Magnus Okoi Williams, Chief Okoi Ikona of the Ikona Ikona fame all of the old, and from Chief Clement David Ebri, Chief Wilfred Oden Inah, Chief Okoi Lekam, Elder Chief Ebri Eteng, Chief Eteng Okoi Obuli just to mention a few of our contemporary times. In all, none of the aforementioned Political leaders has given the Yakurr people so much headache as Bassey Eko Ewa. None has disintegrated Yakurr as Bassey Eko Ewa by way of politics of exclusion and divide and rule. When Bassey first came on board we had reasoned that he could offer the Yakurr people a clean break from the old order to the new generation of political players by introducing innovative ideas to turn Yakurr around, but how wrong were we. Instead, for Bassey, it was an opportunity to show that that he is a maximum ruler and not a leader by unleashing terror on the people using state instrumentality, worst for it being the ugep people. Right from his days from his days in the State Assembly, all the ugep people get for the votes they gave him is a calculated agenda to shoot down ugep. This agenda is being implemented in stages up to the time of posting this mail. Under his leadership we have witnessed the most brazen corruption, nepotism, politics of exclusion, and abuse of office. There is hardly any passing that Bassey will not show himself as the man in charge with the power to hire and fire political office holders/seekers. He has virtually usurped the Yakurr Local Govt Council. As a matter of fact Yakurr Local Govt is existing in ugep but practically run from ekori. Ekori has become the political MECA of Yakurr by Bassey’s machinations. Is it any wonder that all the contracts that emanated from that Copuncil in the days of Bomboy were executed by Bassey through his proxies? To mention just a few, we bring to you some of the contracts issued from Yakurr local govt but executed by Bassey: 1. Printing of exercise books at the cost of N25 million, executed by Bassey Ewa. 2. Building of Health Centre at Ntan Ekori, at the cost of N15million executed by Bassey’s wife. 3. Renovation of Council Block at the cost of N7.5million executed by Uket Eko Ewa Bassey’s elder brother. 4. Renovation of council block at the cost of N6.8million excuted by Omini Abam Ekim, Bassey;s brother in law 5. Building of Ultra Modern Abatoir at the cost of N15million, executed byYibala Dumbra, Bassey’s relation. 6. Construction of bore hole, over head tank, interlocking of Abatoir at the cost of N6million, executed by Bar Mkpang Ewa his relation from Ekori 7. Construction of 10 nos. lock up shops at the cost of N7.5million, executed by Mike Okoi and Mgt Igbebor rtd both Bassey’ proxies We can go on and on but for time and space. However, we hope with this brief information at your disposal you can now see why we don’t need Bassey’s representation any more… In the next edition we shall show you how Bassey did not finish from the University of Calabar and why he did not serve NYS C. of course this can further be explained by his not filling INEC forms with his Degree qualifications which he claimed to have obtained, but filled only School Certificate for the pending elections.
