One of the 5 primary Gods of Sanatana Dharma,although worshipped as son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati,his presence is recorded even @ the beginning of universe,the God of gods,source of everything.. Tvameva Pratyaksham Tatvamasi Tvamev Kevalam Kartasi Tvamev Kevalam Dhartasi Tvamev Kevlam Hartasi Tvamev Sarvam Khalvidam Bramhasi Tvam Sakshadatmasi Nityam.... O Lord Ganesha I Pay my deep homage to you, the Lord of the Deva-Gana You are the first facet of the Bramha-Tatva to arise You have alone created this Entire universe You alone can maintain this universe You are indeed the all conquering supreme Lord Indeed you are the ATMA .. Many puranas mention,the pre Ganesha birth ceremonies,to be commemorated with Ganesh puja,daksha yagya in Ganesh purana and Mudgala purana is said to be destroyed,as i wasnt started with Ganesh puja.. Kartikeya too is mentioned of worshipping Ganesha.. Even in Tulsidasjis Ramacharitamanasa,Balkanda,we have a chopai.. Muni Anushasana Ganapatihi Poojihu Shambhu Bhawani.. Kou suni sanshay kare jani Sur Anadi Jiy Jani... On the instance of priests,Shiva and Bhavani/Parvati worshipped Ganesha at the beginnging of their marriage,one shudnt b doubtful regarding this... In Ganaptya agamas like Ganesha purana and Mudgala Purana,Ganesha is the Parabrahma..-Brahmanaspati!!!!! Even Shiva,Shakti,Vishnu,Brahma worship him on various instances.. Many times,as a Parabrahma,his Gauriputra is just an incarnation,whereas sum tyms its his original form.. In many books,he is incarnation of the main deity there..
