SIDNEY — UPDATE @ 6:30 p.m.: A fire late this afternoon caused “significant damage” to a house and displaced a family, said Cameron Haller, assistant chief of the Sidney Fire Department. No one was home when the blaze broke out shortly before 4 p.m. The fire was contained to two rooms: a living room and dining room, Haller said, but there was significant smoke, fire and water damage to the house. The American Red Cross was called to assist the family because the house is uninhabitable. Preliminary damages estimates are $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 in losses to contents. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Haller said. Two pet fish were unharmed; however, a pet frog was harmed — the extent of its injuries was not known, he said. FIRST REPORT Flames were shooting from a two-story house this afternoon in Shelby County. Crews were called around 3:51 p.m. to a house in the 200 block of Pike Street. There was no word on whether there were any injuries, or what may have sparked the blaze. - See more at: m.whio/news/news/local/fire-ravages-2-story-house-in-sidney/njtXL/#sthash.7yYN1jiz.dpuf
