SIERRA LEONE EBOLA LOCKDOWN, FINANCE MINISTER DR. KAIFALA MARAH APPEALS TO THE PUBLIC TO BE COOPERATIVE. Ahead of the three days lockdown ( September 18 - 21, 2014. ) to combat the deadly Ebola virus in Sierra Leone, one of the few most charismatic and trustworthy Sierra Leoneans in central positions of trust The Hon. Minister of Finance Dr. Kaifala Marah has call on fellow Sierra Leoneans to be highly cooperative during the lock down. According to him, the act is meant to deter the spreading of the virus and isolate fresh cases. Speaking in his often charming, obeying and utterly convincing manner he has the following words for his people: KEY NOTE ADDRESS OF SIERRA LEONE FINANCE MINISTER HON. DR. KAIFALA MARAH For more than a century, from 1900 to date, total cooperations to combat epidemic are always effective. By attracting impressive support from citizens and non-citizens, whose activism takes the form of sensitization, civil obedience and other forms of positive cooperations, these efforts help promote the cause and produce remarkable results. Today our focus as a Government under the leadership of His Excellency Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma is on whats being a significant challenge in the news and, more importantly, a significant challenge for our families that continue to be at risk as a consequence of the outbreak of Ebola in our country. The Government is calling for the three days lockdown not because we lack compassion for our people, but because President Koroma believe that in addition to his Government being a responsible Government, we must take prudent measures to save the lives of our people. And if we have a disorderly and slow progress of combating Ebola, that not only put the nation at risk, but it also calls to question our obligation to save lives. As a Government, our Leader understand what our priorities are and we will keep on pursuing them with a very strong sense of duty. A new outbreak of Ebola in Sierra Leone that covers nearly all the districts needs new approaches. Old fashioned solutions and models often dont work their magic anymore. So we need to keep innovating and come up with new creative ideas in all areas to keep giving our people the best we can in desperate times like this. Under the leadership of President Koroma, we find that sharing creativity and knowledge between different disciplines and expertises is essential in making the best solutions for our people today. So the Government of President Koroma is quite willing to be curious about new approaches. Hence the need for the three days lock down to do house to house check to discover new cases and get them isolated for swift and effective treatment. The President agree that the combating of Ebola is necessary for the sustenance of our country. He have a challenge that has been reoccurring in his mind this revolves around the question of how to make the combating of Ebola efficient for all: the rich and the poor, young and old, the might and the lowly, the educated and non-educated the religious and the heathens.... My argument today is the eradication of Ebola should be the way for now, and we should not put other things ( corruption accusations base on deliberate alarmist misinterpretation of evidence with an intention to sabotage the combating process, and all other good or bad things) as the way of combating Ebola. They cannot possibly be the way to get the virus contained. Instead, after Ebola has been successfully tackled it can be the way to all those. Please lets think big and fight Ebola positively!
