SIFEI WEN, cellist Honored for her “impressive virtuosity and musically sensitive playing,” cellist SIFEI WEN is a young, professional musician whose powerful mastery of the instrument is confirmed by many awards and deeply appreciated by her audiences. Sifeis experience as recitalist, orchestra soloist, and chamber musician includes a live performance on the internationally televised program, the Hour of Power in addition to radio broadcasts on AM1300, K-Mozart FM in America, EURO and China. Her most recent appearances include chamber music and solo performances in the Festival de San Miguel de Allende in Mexico and solo performances with the Young Musicians Foundation Debut Orchestra, the University of Southern California Thornton Symphony. And the National Chamber Orchestra of Bulgaria Sofia Soloists . Sifei’s mature, expressive playing, and beautiful tone have led music authorities to praise her as a most talented and promising cellist. Miss Wen has accumulated a superb record of top prizes in numerous prestigious competitions: University of Southern California Thornton School of Music Strings Concerto Competition, 25th Kingsville International Young Performers Competition for Bowed Instruments ( including the Rosemary Scales Violoncello Prize, the Senior Munguia Bach Prize for outstanding performance of an unaccompanied movement by J. S. Bach, the Senior Solo Contest for Bowed Instrument, the Senior Concerto Contest for Bowed Instrument, performance at the Festival de San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, and the Final Concerto Competition ), the 51th Young Musicians Foundation Debut Concerto Competition ( Senior ), the National Debut Concerto Competition, the Torrance Symphony Young Artists Concerto Competition ( Senior ), the National American String Teachers Association Solo Competition ( Junior ), the Music Teachers Association of California sponsored VOCE Solo State Competition ( Senior and Intermediate Strings ), the 4th National Violoncello Competition in China, the Concerto Competitions of the Peninsula Symphony, the Culver City-Marina del Rey, Westchester Symphony (Intermediate), the Brentwood-Westwood Symphony Orchestra (Senior), and the Pacific Symphony Chinese-American League Showcase Competition. In 2007, Sifei Wen participated at the Nineteenth Biannual Gregor Piatigorsky Seminar for Cellists at USC Thornton School of Music as a scholarship student and recitalist coached by world famous masters Natalia Gutman, Nathaniel Rosen and Erling Blondal Bengtsson. Evidence of the respect Miss Wens musical gifts have earned is demonstrated by the fact that she has received the Rotary Club Memorial Music Scholarship, the Gregor Piatigorsky Memorial Cello Scholarship, the Los Angeles Violoncello Society Scholarship, University of Southern California Thornton School of Music Scholarship and Yale University of Music Scholarship. Born in Shanghai, China, Sifei used to be a cello performance major at the USC Thornton School of Music. For the past six years, her musical development has been mentored by the internationally known cellist, Professor Eleonore Schoenfeld , Chairman of the USC Strings Department and Gregor Piatigorsky Chair of Violoncello. Miss Wens credentials are further enhanced by having been accepted at Yale University to major in cello performance with full scholarship where she studies under the guidance of brilliant soloist, chamber musician and teacher Aldo Parisot and works closely with prominent Yale chamber music educator William Purvis. She has also studied with Professor MeiJuan Liu in Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China, Nathaniel Rosen and Peter Stumpf in USC. Sifei is a member of the American String Teachers Association, the Los Angeles Violoncello Society, and the Chinese Bowed Instruments Association. Sifei Wen is one of the most impressive cellists to emerge from the new generation, combining Russian-style virtuosity with the introspection, poetry and subtle color associated with her native China.
