SIGHTINGS UPDATE | 24.08.2013 Today proved a classic early autumn fall day for east coast birders. Pick of the bunch were two Booted Warblers (Northumberland and Norfolk), though no less than five Citrine Wagtails included new birds on Scilly and Shetland. At least nine Greenish Warblers arrived (mostly in Scotland), with similar numbers of Red-backed Shrikes, Icterine and Barred Warblers scattered around, as well as a couple of Common Rosefinches. It was an excellent day for Wrynecks, with upwards of 30 birds including several in the Spurn/Kilnsea/Easington area and an impressive four at Landguard (Suffolk). Pied Flycatchers were also particularly numerous, with Spurn alone logging at least 62 birds (as well as 57 Whinchats). Good numbers of Black Terns were also on the move, as were a handful of Dotterel. Away from the excitement along the coast, four Two-barred Crossbills remained in South Yorkshire as did Lesser Yellowlegs in Co. Wexford and Carmarthenshire.
