SIR MANASUPE URGE CHURCHES TO WORK TOGETHER WITH PROVINCIAL AND DISTRICT AUTHORITIES Churches have been in the business of providing basic services in Papua New Guinea for over 100 years and have been very successful. Chief Secretary to Government, Sir Manasupe Zurenuoc made this comment in his keynote address at the Church Partnership Forum held in Madang Province. Sir Manasupe acknowledged the work of churches in delivering services to people in the rural areas where 90 per cent of the services are needed and urged them to work with the Provincial and District Authorities to facilitate the process of service delivery. Sir Manasupe said the churches have vast experiences in providing services at the district level, therefore, the government intends to use their system and benefit from their success. The churches are touching people’s lives every day and we intend to ride on this success, he said. “Given the role played by churches, it is important that the different churches act in a coordinated way and in close cooperation with the government. “The churches should see themselves as part of the government machinery and seek to use the existing government processes where funding to assist is made available through the usual budgetary process through health and education.” Sir Manasupe said the government is trying to move closer to the people, therefore, it is important to maintain dialogue with the churches, who are partners in service delivery. Further, the Chief Secretary called on both the government and the churches to work together and not in isolation. Church Partnership Program Church Leaders Council Chairman, Father Victor Roch thanked Sir Manasupe for acknowledging the work of the churches. Fr. Roch gave assurance of commitment by all the churches in the CPP to continue delivering services to those who need it and also to assist the government in the serve delivery process.
