SKIPPER / FISHERMAN GRADE 2 (MARITIME) - POSITION AVAILABLE, WESTERN CAPE: Maritime company in need of a Skipper who will effectively manage and control all aspects of the vessels operation and planning associated with the safe and efficient running of the vessel and crew. RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure the safety of vessels and crew; Ensure navigation safety; Ensure overall compliance with all regulatory parties; Monitor and manage voyage planning; Monitor and manage onboard catering; Monitor and maintain machinery; Monitoring overall housekeeping, hygiene and quality; Maintain budgetary constraints; Ensure effective communication to relevant parties; Ensure effective personnel management; Responsible for all engineering activities inclusive of maintenance onboard; Maintenance of fishing gear and associated equipment; Ensure all electronic aids onboard are maintained as defined by applicable SOP’s and in accordance with manufacturer’s requirements; Ensure all machinery and equipment are maintained and kept in good working condition at all times; Expose individuals to the required level of competence; Ensure all officers and managers train and mentor staff. REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES: Grade 12 or equivalent; Qualified Grade 2; Fisherman (Skipper); Must have a relevant first aid qualification; Must have a fire fighting qualification; Must have knowledge of health and safety practices; Must have good communication and writing skills; Must be computer literate; Be able to work under pressure; Be able to meet deadlines and motivate people; Be able to work in a team; Must have the ability to adapt and respond to change; Must have determination to meet company goals and objectives.
