SLIDE FIRE MORNING UPDATE: The fire has grown to nearly 16,500 acres and remains 25% contained. Overnight, crews made substantial progress with burnout operations between the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon and FSR 535. Warmer temperatures and drier conditions predicted for the next few days have prompted fire managers to install 2 Remote Automated Weather Stations to better assess weather over the fire. Oak Creek Canyon from Slide Rock State Park to the Sterling Springs Hatchery remains on mandatory evacuation orders. A pre-evacuation notice for the Flagstaff neighborhoods of Kachina Village and Forest Highlands will be lifted at noon.
