SMALL FARMS MAKE MONEY To judge from the enormous success of very small farms, from 1 ¼, 2 ½, 3 ½, 5 to 10 acres in South Florida, I guess such farms would be a great success in the Virgin Islands. I suggest "natural farming" or "permaculture" for sustainable yields in what through negligence has become land abandoned to casha and tantan. Hugelkultur and other new methods, like swales, could minimize water needs for irrigation, and arboriculture would be a plus. Even on St. Thomas, small farms could thrive; even on Water Island, in point of fact.
