#SMH ... THIS LIFE SEF Yesterday, I was at Awka Prisons to see my Client, an elderly man charged with Obtaining by False Pretence, but owing to the number of complainants, the amounts involved and the nature of the case, the court refused to grant him bail. Initially, I appeared for him, Pro Bono (Free) although we agreed that the appearance fee will be paid when I visit him in prison to take his brief. Already I received calls from a Prison officer serving at Awka Prisons demanding my presence to help the man secure his bail at the High Court. Just yesterday, out of my busy schedule, I decided to pay the inmate a visit. While I got there as usual, they demanded I should draft a letter addressed to the Deputy Comptroller of Prisons requesting for his permission to see my client, that I did and my phone was booked at the security. I went straight to the welfare office where I saw my client, after my discussion with him. He paid me the fees to cover the expenses I incurred although he had earlier informed me that his relative who visited from the North brought the money. Just as I cleared with security and collected my phones, I walked past the Prison Gate and saw some group of persons whom I believed to be a Charity Organisation, I peeped inside their car and I saw Bags of rice, Vegetable oil, Tin Tomatoes and other food items. I looked at myself and felt ashamed, I told myself Olisa, while others are bringing food items to the prison, you came to collect your appearance fee from a helpless prisoner But on a second thought, I said Lawyer go chop naa. #This life sef
