SNC chief: Syrian regime wants to implicate Lebanon Interim leader of the opposition Syrian National Coalition George Sabra said that the Syrian regime is looking to embroil Lebanon into the Syrian conflict. “The Syrian regime wants to implicate Lebanon through dragging Hezbollah into the battle and [causing unrest] in Tripoli via its allies,” Sabra said in comments published by Al-Joumhouriya newspaper on Saturday. He went on to praise the Lebanese parties that support the Syrian revolt, and described them as “true allies, such as the Future Movement, the Lebanese Forces, Progressive Socialist Party leader MP Walid Jumblatt… and all of March 14’s constituent parties.” Fighters from Hezbollah have helped the troops of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad retake control of Al-Qusayr, a strategic rebel stronghold linking Damascus to the Mediterranean coast. However, some parties claim that the Shiite party is also involved in fighting in other Syrian districts. Meanwhile, Tripoli has witnessed several days of violence between the Alawite pro-regime Jabal Mohsen neighborhood and their rivals in the Sunni pro-rebels Bab al-Tebbaneh area.
