SOAP OPERA RATINGS, JANUARY, 2014. Its worthwhile to note that in the last two weeks there has been a significant change for all daytime dramas on air. CBSS The Young and Restless and Bold and The Beautiful, spiked with big ratings/gains for the week of Jan 6th-10th, while General Hospital and Days of our Lives declined in viewership. The week of January 13th-17th found ALL soaps dropping back to a relatively normal or regular rating share. As Y&R and B&B lost viewers, so did GH and DOOL, in ALL demographics. The TV ratings race has always been an up and down roller coaster ride, especially for the genre of Soap Operas. One things for sure, these iconic soap operas have weathered the storms for over half of a century. Who can forget the amazing daytime drama blast off in the early 1980s with iconic super couple pairings of; Luke and Laura, Victor and Nikki, Marlena and John/Roman, Josh and Reva, Jesse and Angie, Erica Kane and everyman? However, it is important to note that no single super couple has singlehandedly kept a show on air, ever. THE ENTIRE CAST of these popular Soaps have collectively worked together to provide the viewers with a weekly, entertaining experience. Modern day soaps play out to a diverse and knowledgable audience, with viewers coming from all walks of life. From North America, to fans in the far east of the globe, soap operas are an established, integral part of the fabric of society, and a most important piece to this puzzle we call life. These four soaps are the last man standing, as they say. They are loved, worshipped and cherished by the millions of committed fans that watch them. Thanks to the fans, General Hospital will celebrate a record breaking 51 years on air in March, 2014. Days of our Lives is 49 years old, approaching 50. The Young and Restless has been on air for nearly 41 years, and number one for 25 years straight. And, the baby of the bunch, The Bold and The Beautiful, will be celebrating 27 years young, in March of 2014. Soaps may be cancelled, and Iconic soap characters and actors may come and go, but this cherished medium will live on regardless, paying homage to those that have walked before us, and those that continue this most incredible, entertaining journey. Heres to another 50 more years! KSJ RATINGS WEEK OF JANUARY 6TH-10TH, 2014 Total Viewers 1. Y&R 5,472,000 (+159,000/+833,000) *
