SOAS FORUM Serene Wee If ever there was a neither here nor there book this is it. But its not without a serious intent, no matter how propagandistic it is meant to be!. Prof Garry Rodan from Down Under opined its importance lies in what it left unsaid. Deliberately no mention at all about Nicole Seah. She and her type are essential ingredients for the much needed paradigm shift that the authors seem to think ONLY THE PAP can deliver. Rethinking and challenging the stereotype? No mention at all of the By Election Effect Strategy(1991) employed by the Sg opposition. Probably one of the v few creative efforts of modern SG politics according to Rodan. What grates Rodan even more is the Barisan Socialis expert Prof PJ Thum from Oxford conveniently omitted areas in which he had done vast and deep research on, and which is particularly relevant. How come the Barisan failed when the groundswell support for them as well as their organisational abilities were overwhelmingly far more superior than the English stream PAP? They were emotionally connected to the ground when the PAP were not! Of course no point talking about such things because going into such matters would only awaken the current oppo up. Drawing parallels is futile for the PAPs cause. History is indeed repeating itself. Barisans failure to optimise its vast advantages looks destined to be repeated by present day oppo people. Have no illusion, the book and such like scribbles and propaganda have a v serious intent. They are meant to buy the PAP crucial time to get back on track for the 2015/16 electoral casino.
