SOCCER: The Keyano College mens soccer team will finish off the podium at the CCAA national championships in Oakville, Ont., this weekend. But, for a while Friday, it looked like Huskies goaltender Luke Arthur might have opened the door to the bronze-medal match. Playing the CEGEP Garneau Elans on the grounds of Sheridan College, Arthur pulled off a handful of big saves in the final moments of the match to preserve a 0-0 score in regulation time and force a penalty-kick showdown. Both Keyano and Garneau were five-for-five in PK opener when, starting the sudden-death rounds of extra shooters, Austin Pike of Fort McMurray miscued and hit the goalpost on his attempt. Other Huskies were still consoling Pike when Garneaus next shooter made good on his bid. The eighth-seeded Keyano squad began the tournament with a 7-0 quarter-final shellacking at the hands of Algonquin College, the tournament favourite, but battled back yesterday to defeat the fourth-seeded Holland College Hurricanes 5-2.
