SOCIALISM IS DEAD. FREE MARKET ENTERPRISE, BUSINESS IS OPEN Years after socialism and socialist ideologies dissolved with the death of USSR, many third world countries are still basking in the heat of socialism. In my dear native land Nigeria, you still feel the pulse of socialist ideologies from the circles of its socio-political palava. It is in part respectable title to be referred to as “Comrade Azuka (Tufiakwa”), or use such outdated clichés as “” aluta continua” as a bypass to solving major national issues, deceiving those who still hope for an egalitarian society. Get over this nonsense my dear comrades here and everywhere else. Socialism is dead. The cold war era between East block and West is eternally frozen. It would never melt. The center of socialism, USSR collapsed into fragmented nations, pleading with free market economy to help fuel their desecrated and disintegrated economies. Capitalism remains. It has come to stay. It’s a free market economy that encourages competition, hard work, opportunities, adventure and yields dividend. Capitalist economy allows you to be lazy and die sadly or be hard working, comfortable and die happy. Your choice. Show me the benefit of socialism through its centuries and I will show you a virgin in a birthing center.. Nothing but marginalization of a peoples desire to excel and be productive. Even the old soldiers of socialist principles enriched their own families: Fidel Castro’s children would never wear torn shoes or flip flops to schools: they would ride, escorted in state vehicle and be protected by state security… Is this socialism in 21st century? After being exposed the past twenty five years to a capitalist free market enterprise that includes more success stories than failures, I concluded that in my infancy to adolescence, growing in Nigeria may have blinded me to this nonsense called socialism. How many socialists lived and died happily? Tai Solarin wore khaki shorts until he saw the lights near his end time, Ebenezer babatope sold out because he was tired of fist pumping in the air day time and returning home at nights not able to feed his family. While he was busy fighting the oppressed for the common masses, his family’s stomachs were being pressed by hunger. The Nigerian Labor Congress and the Trade congress sold Nigerians to Aso rock two years ago when President Jonathan ambushed Nigerians few days into the New Year and removed the oil subsidy. NLC and the trade congress would hold our hands, came to media microphones and told the poor workers; “ Aluta continua” nonsense… and in the evening, they mortgaged the lives of ordinary hard working Nigerians, on the bargain table, got the best deals for themselves that capitalism offered. They were like Imams or Alfa preaching to the Muslims not to eat pork because it was an unholy animal. After the sermon, the Iman would go to dinner and order a juicy well-done pork chop steak…My friends, socialism is dead.
