SOME KIND PEOPLE BEHIND OUR UPCOMING COLLARING OPERATION Before we tell you more about the elephants that we plan to collar on the 12th, we would like to give you some background information on two special people who have been helping and supporting our programme. The first being the artist Dawie Fourie and the second being the vet, Dr. Cobus Raath who we will tell you more about tomorrow. Dawie Fourie was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. He studied Nature Conservation and Management and did veterinary research at the Veterinary Research Institute Onderstepoort. In 1989 he decided to pursue a career in Art but chose to use his art to support various Nature Conservation Projects. Dawie has a particular love for elephants which represents his most popular subject. He has won international acclaim for his elephant paintings with 6 solo exhibitions, 6 Private exhibitions and about 30 group exhibitions in the USA, Dubai, France, Spain and South Africa. Dawie remains involved in Nature Conservation and has registered research projects on lions, zebras and giraffes. He is also doing osteology research on elephants. We are extremely grateful and honoured that Dawie has made his exquisite painting of ‘Ndlowa’ available for auction to raise funds for the upcoming collaring operation. We will let you know how to bid over the next couple of days and by so doing you may become the fortunate owner of a beautiful piece of work going towards a worthy cause. Dawie kindly allowed us to auctioned one of his other elephant paintings ‘I am’ which also helped us raise much needed funds. Thank you Dawie for sharing your talents with elephants, us and the world!
