SOME MOVIE SCORES Ive recorded: Updated from July 2009 Movie List, Musicians Federation royalty check Ive always enjoyed doing the movie calls from 1963 on and even lately. When youre recording every day, playing side-by-side with 45, 55, and 72 of the greatest musicians in Hollywood, day after day recording the great music, great genius scores written by Jerry Goldsmith, Quincy Jones, Michel LeGrand, Leonard Roseman, Bob Alcivar, Dave Grusin, Lyn Murry, Henry Mancini, Lalo Schifrin, David Rose, Michel Columbier, Harry Sukman, Billy Goldenberg, Billy Byers, Jack Elliot, Benny Golson........ Lionel Newman, Alfred Newman, Don Costa, Elmer Bernstein, Percy Faith,Jack Hayes, Hal Mooney, Marty Paich, Jeff Alexander, Jack Eskew, Sy Mitchell, Lex Aznevous, Ralph Burns, Bob Prince, Al Sindrey, Hugo Montenegro, Johnny Mandel, Roger Kellaway, Nick DeCaro, J. J. Johnson, Duayne Tatro, George Romais, Richard Markowitz, Morty Stevens, John Eizade, Benny Carter, Burt Bachrach, John Williams, Dave Grusin, Bob Florence, Fred Karlin, Fred Myrow, Jerry Fielding, David Shire, so many others, its a great work to both play and record music by these great gentlemen. It truly is the best a musician can do, best of music, and also thanks to our Union Federation, pays consistently well also. Yes, we get some re-use royalties on those films....our Federation collects and dispense this to us but...yes, there sometimes are problems. Union rules that they have to be reported by a certain time, or theyre not on the main royalty list for musicians tho theyre run on TV...and with a few, i.e. we cant get paid for Pawnbroker (contract missing), On Any Sunday (company wont pay, orig. co. out of business) etc. Some companies are simply out of business who signed the contracts with the Union etc. and the cos who took them over cant be made to pay us our just royalties. The Federation people work hard to get us our due re-use checks, and were all grateful for it... sometimes theres just not enough hired hands - they work very hard to get us our royalty and re-use monies. But sometimes their hands are tied and its frustrating.....for instance one time, the Union recd 1,000s of dollars to pay all the many musicians on one film score, only to give back the check since the co. was not a signatory (on contract) with our Federation. They do work hard to track down companies and get us our due-royalties.
