SOMERSET Regional Council Libraries will host the launch later this year of an inspirational book penned by local Councillor Kirsten Moriarty. The book, From Dark Days to Blue Skies, tells of the author’s dreadful skydiving accident and her remarkable recovery. On July 10, 2010, Ms Moriarty, then a journalist and experienced skydiver, collided with high voltage power lines after a routine skydive. Somerset Mayor Graeme Lehmann said she had survived against all the odds. “She came back from near-death, burnt and broken, to learn that doctors had told her family and friends she would lose both her legs and never walk again,” Cr Lehmann said. “This is a story that will offer comfort to anyone going through their own dark days and inspire readers about the power of hope, love and determination to overcome even the most extraordinarily difficult circumstances.” Cr Moriarty said she was pleased to have the support of the local library and thanked Somerset Regional Council’s regional librarian Caroline Smith for including her as part of the program of author talks hosted by the library. Cr Moriarty has made a full recovery and still enjoys skydiving. The launch of From Dark Days to Blue Skies will be held at the Somerset Civic Centre, 35 Esk-Hampton Road, Esk, on 28 November from 6pm. Guests are asked to RSVP to Somerset Regional Council on 5424 4000.
