SOMETHING TO DO SATURDAY: Treasures of the Maya Spirit Exhibition Los Angeles Jewelry, Antique & Design Show LA Art Show Los Angeles Convention Center South Hall 1201 Figueroa Street Los Angeles lawintershow This is the only weekend we can see the Treasures of the Maya Spirit! The exhibition features this, Crouching Masked Jaguar Warrior, a 9 foot stucco sculpture, the only example, known to date, of a three-dimensional stucco sculpture with its original color preserved. It is currently the subject of intense academic research, some of which will be presented in the exhibition. This artifact is described as one of the greatest Mayan discoveries in recent decades, being unveiled for the first time publicly here in Los Angeles! The exhibition also features more than 200 object from sculptures, to textiles, to slingshots and ceramics, in the largest Mayan exhibition ever seen in North America. The items on view, will be shipped to the future Museo Maya de America, a new Mayan Museum scheduled to break ground in 2016 in Guatemala City, Guatemala. By the way, Los Angeles is home to the largest population of Guatemalans living outside of Guatemala, and consequently the largest population of Mayan descendants.
