SONG OF THE DAY (Top 15 Songs of 2014): 7. Tides of Man - Mountain House --- This is the second band on this countdown to make the shift to an instrumental band after the departure of their vocalist, and again, it has proven to have yielded amazing results. Tides of Man was a really solid group on their previous two albums, but this new album really sees them expressing themselves musically in ways they hadnt necessarily done before. I find it interesting that they have kept their music short-form (especially for instrumental rock), with the average song lengths running between 3 and 4 minutes. Apparently, they are still considering bringing in a new singer, but I would be glad to see them continue on as they are. At a mere 2 minutes, 55 seconds, this song packs all the emotional wallop you could ask for, including one of the most epic, goosebump-inducing climaxes of the year.
