SOURCE:Youtube comment -->If our country had its priorities straight, concerning education, budgets for music and the arts would never be slashed in favor of sports. While it maybe true that athletics brings in a lot of money to schools, the only reason this is the case is because the American public would rather watch their children bash each others brains out on the football field and pay money to see it or pay money for sports paraphernalia related to it, than watch skilled orchestral or band students play, or watch an art student create a visual masterpiece. If people would put more value on the latter musical and artistic endeavors, the performing and visual arts could become an income earner, and could no longer be seen as an expendable aspect of our education system. While I think physical fitness should be an indispensable part of our curriculum, all that is needed is an hour of mandatory physical exercise for every student. Athletics should not eclipse music and arts, which have far more mental value. A country that concerns itself more with sports than music or arts is precisely the type of country that produces more cannon fodder for the military, and prisoners for our penal system. A country that concerns itself more with the cultivation of the mind, through various mental disciplines, including the arts, produces more world class engineers, doctors, and lawyers. That is why China, India, Singapore, Germany, Finland, etc. while not beating us in athletic games, are beating us in the game of life. SOURCE:Youtube comment https://youtube/watch?v=W97RYQRyhgE
