SOUTH KASHMIR PROTESTS OVER DENIAL OF ADMIN UNITS Srinagar, Oct 17 (KNS): As the state cabinet approved the creation of more administrative units on Thursday¸ series of protests were witnessed on Friday in south Kashmir with locals alleging step motherly treatment exhibited to their areas. According to the KNS, correspondent, people in South Kashmir’s Kulgam area protested against the cabinet decision, saying the deserving segments in the region have been out rightly overlooked by the authorities. They alleged that the government has approved the creation of administrative units in the areas wherein political ends could meet and interests are served. Reports informed that locals from various areas of south Kashmir including Khuri Batpora- Noorabad Kulgam which is also the turf of NC minister Sakeena Itoo, protested for the status of Tehsil. Protesters said that the promises made to them in the past by the local MLA were rubbished by the state cabinet on Thursday as the area has once again been denied the status of Tehsil. Talking to KNS correspondent, locals said that the protests would intensify further if their demands are not met in the near future. “We travelled to Srinagar four months earlier and met Sakina Itoo. She promised is that no area from Kulgam will be ignored and justice will be done properly in terms of administrative units. Now we have again been ignored,” said one of the local. Others seconded his views, saying they have been undermined by the government and if the status of tehsil is not given to the area, locals would be compelled to go for the indefinite strike. The State Cabinet Thursday approved recommendations of Khurshid Ahmed Ganai-led expert committee constituted to examine the feasibility and demands for creation of new administrative units in the left-out areas of the State. “TheCommittee had recommended creation of 9 new sub-divisions, 50 new tehsils, 99 new niabats and 63 new CD blocks,” an official spokesman said.
