SOUTH-NORTH GRIOTS SUMMIT 2015 Harbourfront Centre, Toronto, Canada MAY 28-31, 2015 Call for Proposals due JANUARY 17, 2015 #GRIOTSNETWORK The SOUTH-NORTH GRIOTS SUMMIT will connect a Pan-Continental community of artists, presenters and practitioners in order to engage in performance and dialogue, and actively transform the narrative defining our art of Spoken Word. With reference to the lineage of the Griot as storyteller, poet, musician, community documentarian, cultural voice and socio-political commentator, the discourse will centre on Spoken Word as an agent of social change, and a catalyst in the shaping of contemporary identity. The Summit will examine historical traditions, explore new arts practices, and envision future movements throughout the Diaspora. The Summit focuses on developing global networks connecting African Canadian and international artists of African, Caribbean, South American and other culturally diverse heritages.
