SOUTH WALTON TURTLE WATCH volunteers put in about 4,000 volunteer - TopicsExpress

SOUTH WALTON TURTLE WATCH volunteers put in about 4,000 volunteer hours each year. All volunteers are part of SWTW texting program to let vendors know when an area has been cleared. The area coordinators and permit holder put in many more hours for various other duties, which include strandings, training, marking and moving nests, investigating all turtle crawls, nest evaluation , submitting a wide variety of reports to the state and the county, working on all issues that may come up such as lighting and vendor violations, and all other matters pertaining to sea turtles. Volunteers volunteer their time early in the morning to monitor all of South Walton’s non state park beaches. We feel that this group is unique in the way they put in so many hours and walk so early in the mornings. They walk in the heat, humidity and even in the rain. They must be one of the largest volunteer groups in Walton County. Their reward is to know that they are helping to save sea turtles and a breakfast at the end of the season. SWTWG thanks each everyone of them. We also would like to start up a Friends of Turtle Watch this fall, give other who can not walk a chance to get donations, educate the public, hand out various phamplets about sea turtles. Stay tuned for more info when we have it.
