SPCA has just conducted another round of the Trap-Neuter-Release - TopicsExpress

SPCA has just conducted another round of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) Sterilisation exercise of the community cats over at St John’s Island, over the past weekend (18-19 Oct, 2014). We attempted to trap humanely as many cats as humanly possible, given the short window period of only one day to trap. The trapped cats were sedated and then neutered, the next day, following which they were released back to the community on the island, once they have come to. The benefits of the TNR exercise go beyond helping to control the feral cat population, as altered male cats typically become less aggressive, which would then reduce injuries from fighting. SPCA will monitor the cat numbers on the island, working closely with the caretakers on the island as well as the relevant authorities. Special mention goes to the crew and volunteers, comprising SPCA staff and ex-staff, as well as volunteer vets and volunteer vet technicians and vet students. We thank, in particular, Temasek Polytechnic’s volunteer team for joining us on this exercise.
