SPECIALISATION Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve before kings; he will not serve before obscure men. - Proverbs 22:29 As cliche as the saying, Jack of all trades, master of none may sound, its principle is fundamental to being extraordinary. It is a principle inherent in scripture as we will find out. The Scripture asks the question, Do you see a man skillful in his work? What it means is that people who are very skilled at what they do are not common. The nature of the question itself distinguishes such people. This is simply because not everyone is devoted to serious specialization. It takes committment, work, discipline and consistency to create a specialty. - A man who is skilled - This is an indication of extraordinariness. Many people may know how to do something but only few may be extraordinary at doing such a thing. Such people are those who give themselves to constant practice, an excellent way of doing things and an exploration of new ways to do the same thing in a more efficient and rewarding way. Such people are not capricious or impulsive. They are very systematic and intentional about what they do. They always try to out-do themselves. - In his work - This alludes to a persons specific area of dominance. That is what is known as specialization. God is so great that He created the human being with numerous abilities which make humans functional in numerous things. However, He also put one dominating ability in every human being so that each person has the potential of becoming extraordinary at something. Once such ability is developed, it becomes the individuals area of specialization. You can choose to do or be everything but what it means is that you will be good at nothing. In order to stand out in anything, you must focus on that which you do best. Christiano Ronaldo is phenomenal with a football at his feet because although he can run and talk, he plays football better and has deliberately focused most of his energy over the years developing his football. Michaelangelo, Beethoven and Shakespeare were all greats at what they did because they made it their specialty. You can also become a great at what you are good at if you focus more on it. Make it your specialization! PRAYER: Lord, help me discover my area of dominance that I may develop it to become a master at it!
