SPEECH BY HON. (BARR) S. O. MARIERE, MEMBER REPRESENTING UGHELLI NORTH CONSTITUENCY 1 IN THE DELTA STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY DURING THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME AT AGBARHA-OTOR ON WEDNESDAY 23RD JULY 2014. I am very delighted to be here this day. Agbarha-Otor has been quite central to my growth and development as a person and a politician. Many of my childhood thoughts were inspired by my association with Agbarha-Otor and her good people. As a politician the people of Agbarha-Otor have also been very supportive of my aspirations to serve our people in this constituency. I recall those moments when I went round every community in Agbarha-Otor with my campaign message. We saw our fathers and mothers. We encountered our brothers and sisters. My message to them was simple; vote for me and I will represent you well and bring you dividends of democracy. You heeded my call and voted massively for me. My dear good people I say thank you. I am here today to fulfil a part of my campaign promise that has to do with socio-economic empowerment which is the bedrock of human capital development. It is my wish to see majority of our people to be gainfully employed, to be employers of labour, to be entrepreneurs and above all to live quality lives. I believe that it is through this that we can conquer poverty and make progress in life. What I am presenting to you people today constitute what is known as starter pack which should enable the beneficiaries to become self-employed and instant wealth creators. Today, the beneficiaries will go home with 10 clippers, 10 hair dressing machines, 10 generators, 20 sewing machines, 20grinding machines, 10 motor-saws, 25 motor-cycles 1 deep freezer, 2 wheel barrows, 5 welding machines, 5 ladies motor-cycles, 3 tri-cycles and cash in 80 envelopes to start up businesses. I must at this point mention some of the things we have been able to attract to Agbarha-Otor. These include the distribution of electricity transformers to Samagidi, Omakowhre, Imirode and Edoide where I spent my personal money to get the transformer working. We have also ensured that Agbaide Primary School becomes a government recognized school. There is an ongoing block of four classroom project aimed at making the school a modern place of learning. I also facilitated the construction of a block of five classrooms at Agbarha-Otor Primary School. I must mention the renovation of six classrooms at Oghara Secondary School and the reconstruction of another four classrooms in the same school. I donated school uniforms to primary school pupils as well as making chairs and desks for some of the schools to engender a decent learning environment. Recently, I organized a spelling bee competition for primary school pupils in the entire constituency. That event took place here in Agbarha-Otor. We ensured that the constituents at Omavovwe enjoy pipe-borne water by providing them two water projects. We also ensured that there is budgetary allocation/adequate funding for the General Hospital project at Agbarha-Otor. We are also pursuing an agenda of rural road development that will make mobility/transportation easy and enjoyable for our people. There is the ongoing execution of the much talked about Otokutu--Owenvwe--Agbarha Ring Road and the Oghara--Samagidi--Omakowhre--Ehwahwa Road. I have placed twenty-seven people on monthly salary and empowered over 50 women in Agbarha-Otor through a programme similar to Small and Medium Scale Business Enterprise (SME) to the tune of between N20,000 and N100,000. My wife Mrs. Joy Mariere (nee Asore) has been all over the Constituency reaching out to the elderly and the needy in order to alleviate their plight. My dear people what I have recounted so far is also the same as I have done in Evwreni, Otor-Ogor and Orogun. I should also add that todays empowerment programme has taken place in Evwreni and Otor-Ogor. It now remains the turn ofOrogun. And I wish to say that this will not be the end. We will continue to empower our people until everything good reaches everybody. I do congratulate the beneficiaries of todays empowerment and I urge them to put the equipment to good use. I cannot end this address without expressing my profoundest gratitude to some people who have continued to ensure that we deliver concrete democracy dividends to our people. I thank their Excellencies the Governor and Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN) respectively for their support. The same appreciation goes to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya and the former speaker Rt Hon. Victor Ochei I must acknowledge His Royal Majesty, Okorefe III, JP, the Ovie of Agbarha-Otor. My fathers and political leaders in Agbarha-Otor, Chief Terry Noah,Chief John Brighademo, among others. Finally, I thank my very good people of Agbarha-Otor and I solicit your continuing support for the task ahead. I promise to continue to give quality representation, attract good projects to you and ensure improved condition of living. Thank youand God bless you all. Wadoooooooo. Hon (Barr) S. O.
