SPIRITISM Teaching of Scripture on the ministry of angels - that is, for the disciple of Christ, a truth most comforting and most valuable - has been obscured and perverted by the errors of popular theology. The doctrine of natural immortality of the soul, borrowed from the pagan philosophy, has obtained citizenship in the Christian Church as of the darkness of the great apostasy which soon installed, supplanted the doctrine Scripture that "the dead know nothing." We thus come to believe that the angels of God "sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation" are the spirits of the dead, although, according to the Bible, angels existed and played a role in human history before a single human being had passed through death. The doctrine of consciousness in death, especially the belief in spirits of the dead return to minister for the living, have prepared the way of modern spiritualism. If the dead are admitted into the presence of God, and they have knowledge much higher than they had before, why do not they come back to earth to enlighten and instruct the living? If, as some theologians teach, the spirits of the dead hover over their friends living on the earth, why do not they enter into communion with them to warn against evil and comfort in their afflictions?
