SPITTING IN OUR OWN FACES: This float was not only allowed in naval-center Norfolk VAs July 4th parade but received honorable mention from the judges. On perhaps the most patriotic, red-white-and-blue day of the year, we showed that Americans are too bigoted, disrespectful and willfully ignorant to understand the Enlightenment foundations for civil liberty, for civic duty or even to understand what rights are. We utterly fail to appreciate the centuries of blood shed and lives lost to protect and uphold them. Re the outhouse float: [M]ultiple parade judges awarded it an honorable mention. Its obvious the majority of the community LIKED it, he said. So should we deny the 95 percent of those that liked it their rights, just for the 5 percent of people who are upset?
