SPORTS AND STUFF The Seattle Seahawks hammered the New Orleans Saints last night on Monday Night Football, 34-7. Steelers safety Ryan Clark defended Mike Tomlin yesterday, saying his coach never intended to interfere with the Baltimore Ravens Jacoby Jones during a kickoff return Thursday night in Baltimore. Tomlin hopped off the field just before Jones ran past him on the way to a 73-yard return. Tomlins right foot caused a slight change of direction by Jones and may have prevented a touchdown. The league is weighing punishment that could include hefty fines for Tomlin and the team, which could include losing a draft pick. Tomlins weekly news conference is today at noon. San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis claims that St. Louis Rams safety T.J. McDonald went below the belt to make a tackle Sunday and wouldnt let go. Davis also tweeted about the third-quarter play yesterday, saying it should be a league rule saying that a defender can not tackle a player by his groin, calling it the most painful thing ever! Geno Smith told reporters yesterday that he has received word from New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee that he will start in Week 14 against the Oakland Raiders, despite being benched Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Smith has gone five straight games without a touchdown pass, yet he received the nod over Matt Simms and David Garrard -- a decision that likely wont make the fan base happy. Michigan State stays No. 1 for a third straight week in The Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll, receiving all but two of the first-place votes. Arizona moved from fourth to second Monday, drawing the other No. 1 votes from the 65-member national media panel. Kentucky remains third, while Syracuse jumps from eighth to fourth. Ohio State moves up two spots to fifth and is followed by Kansas, which had been second.
