SPORTS UPDATE WITH EMMAH ATAI: Louis van Gaal has been named as Manchester United manager, with Ryan Giggs as his assistant. Van Gaal, 62, has signed a three-year contract to succeed David Moyes. He replaces United interim boss, Ryan Giggs who will be assistant manager at Old Trafford. Giggs replaced David Moyes, who was sacked in April. Norwich chief executive David McNally says the club are hoping to name their new manager within days. McNally also confirmed a position of technical director will be part of the new management structure at Carrow Road. Thibaut Courtois does not know what his future holds as he waits to find out what plans Chelsea have for him. The Belgium goalkeeper has been on loan at Atletico Madrid for the three seasons since Chelsea signed him, but the clamour for him to return to London has been getting louder. Arsene Wenger is set to sign a three-year contract with Arsenal worth £24 million. Wenger has sealed the massive contract after leading the side to FA Cup glory – the clubs first trophy for nine seasons. Most media outlets say the new deal will be worth £24m, although the Daily Telegraph claims it will only be worth £22m. According to figures published by Sporting Intelligence last December, Wengers previous contract was worth £6.89m-a-season, meaning he has been handed a pay rise of over £1m-a-year. His new £8m-a-year salary puts him number four in the list of highest paid managers in world football behind Marcelo Lippi (Guangzhou, £8.34m), Jose Mourinho (Chelsea, £8.37m) and Pep Guardiola (Bayern Munich, £14.8m). Fulhams record signing Kostas Mitroglou has been included in Greeces final 23-man squad for the World Cup, despite a lack of playing time since his move to the Premier League. Coach Fernando Santos believes the striker will be fully fit in time for the tournament in Brazil, which starts next month, after a troubled time in west London with his new side, who were relegated from the Premier League. Three forwards were dropped from Greeces preliminary squad - Dimitris Papadopoulos of Atromitos, Stefanos Athanasiadis and Nikolaos Karelis of Panathinaikos. The boys however had a an easy fight after overcoming another Fort Portal side, Create Peace f.c. The winning team also had the boys top scorer and MVP Bryon Mwesigwa (5 goals) and defender Jamal Balisa (2 goals). The girls Most Valuable Players gong went to Moureen Adralula of Create Peace while Premiers Bridget Nalukenge scooped the top scorers accolade having scored 3 goals. The best teams took home glittering gold medals and trophies on top of a monetary reward of Ug.shs 1M. The runners up got a trophy and Ug.shs 300,000. 78 potential players were picked by the specially appointed football scouts. U-20 assistant ladies coach, Christine Wanyana identified 39 girls who will represent the Kitara regional team at the national finals in Fortportal.
