SPOTLIGHT ON AGILITY Four-legged flatcoated athletes and their two-legged perspiring handlers jump, climb, and wiggle on Monday, June 2. Correction: the dogs jump, climb, and wiggle; the handlers just perspire. There are two basic courses: a “Standard” course which includes jumps, tunnels, weave poles, A-Frame, dogwalk, pause table, chute, and a tire-jump, and a “Jumpers With Weaves” course which includes jumps, weaves, and perhaps a tunnel. The Novice courses are for beginners. Dogs who have earned their novice title run in Open, and more advanced dogs run in Excellent. While all flat-coats are entertaining and fun to watch, the prestigious MACH dogs are outstanding. We’ll also be running a “Time to Beat” course, which is a “hybrid” course. Each dog has the chance to set the “Time to Beat” for his jump height. Agility trials require lots of volunteers, and chairperson Lynda Spangler needs plenty! If you’re at the specialty on Monday, please stop by the arena and offer to help!
