SPRING FESTIVAL SET FOR WILDLIFE REFUGE Friends of Cherry Valley will host a Spring Festival at the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge on May 17, at the old Moreton Homestead in Ross Township. This is the second property acquired as part of the refuge and formally dedicated on July 29. The fall festival that was planned for October 12 was cancelled due to the government shut down. This will be the first significant public event at this property, which has been designated as the headquarters for the refuge. The previous refuge acquisition at the headwaters of Cherry Creek and Aquashicola Creek adjacent to Sorrentis Cherry Valley Vineyard on Lower Cherry Valley Road is open daily and has more than three miles of marked hiking trails. Stone cottage at Moreton property will be open free to the public the day of the festival for the entire family to celebrate the wonders of nature and the beauty of Cherry Valley and the surrounding area. Activities for the entire family will include guided wildlife/nature walks by Don Miller, representing Pocono Heritage Land Trust and the Brodhead Watershed Association, as well as displays, natural food demonstrations, and wildlife displays by the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. Activities for children will include archery, fishing in the farm pond, bird feeder and bird house building, seedling planting and more. All finished projects will go home with the children. And, dont miss seeing the gentle giants, a team of Belgian horses.
