SPRING HILL – The Sheriff’s Office has now confirmed earlier reports of an attempted murder that occurred early this morning at the Atria at Evergreen Woods, located at 7030 Evergreen Woods Trail. (Earlier Report) According to the HCSO, around 12:30 A.M. a resident at the Atria called 911 to report that someone was beating up a security guard. Deputies responded to the scene - located the two individuals fighting and took a white male into custody. It was soon revealed that the suspect was actually 22-year old Brian Christopher Murphy, a weekend security guard at that facility. Prior to the physical altercation, Murphy accessed the facility undetected and entered the rooms of two elderly residents. Once inside, Murphy bludgeoned 88-year old Miriam Lepp and 83-year old Joseph Giambrone, with a blunt object. Both victims were transported to a bay area trauma center with life threatening injuries. The Sheriff’s Office says, the intervention of the on-duty security guard, Jonathan Sousa, prevented further injury to residents and staff, until the arrival of law enforcement. Murphy is charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. He is currently held without bond.
