SRC UNIVEN 2014/15 Receive revolutionary greetings from the Student Representative Council of the University Of Venda led by Cde Mpho Mutobvu (President), greetings are forwarded to all students and extended to staff members, academics and the University Management. REPORT FROM THE COURT HEARING OF NTSIENI GODFREY “SERIAL KILLER” The SRC with different Unions of the community of Thohoyandou and surrounding locations, region and the province of Limpopo led a peaceful match to the magistrate court for the hearing of recently chameleoned student of our institution to a rapist and confessed serial killer. As students and intellectuals we understand the power of law but we oppose the suppression of justice in a form of advancing interest of a “serial killer”. The magistrate has awarded postponement of the case to the 10th of December 2014, with an insufficient reason that the cases charged to the accused are under investigations. The psychological “waka-waka” games the magistrate is playing with affected communities and the University Of Venda students in particular lives lot to be desired. As the SRC we believe such postponement can’t seat on the said date, the 10th of December 2014 is after magnitudes of the University students will be in the long recess and we are the affected group in this regard. As a way forward the SRC will write a memorandum to the magistrate in order to request such postponement to align with University calendar. REPORT FROM PRETORIA DELEGATION FOR A WORKSHOP HOSTED BY NSFAS AND DHET The SRC received the invitation from the Department of High Education and Training and NSFAS which was attended by members of SRC cabinet and delegates from political formations. The workshop set on the 18th October 2014 PRETORIA UNISA MAIN CAMPUS. PRESENTATIONS We received presentations from CACH (CENTRAL APPLICATION CLEARINING HOUSE) this is a formation which seeks to centralise the application of all institutions to one organ, this system is said to assist learners who did not apply on time and consequently find no institution to enrol in. The delegation with other delegations from other institutions dismissed this system because it seeks to steal jobs from our admin officials who audit the application forms and promote laziness for learners in matric and the University of Venda doesn’t support such. We therefore write to the University management that such system must not be approved in our institution as we have advised other SRCs at the plenary to stand in defence of such system of looting from poor majority in our country at large. NSFAS made the second presentation and we engaged them as mandated by the SRC and our various political formations, the presentation spoke less of our demands and all other matters which are thorny in our institution. We had the opportunity to engage with the CEO, CFO and other executive members after the presentation this are demands we forwarded; • The challenge which is faced by students using SBUX, expense of accessing the voucher, the facilities to support students living with disabilities, security of the voucher which seems to have no security or any form to secure vouchers, delayed transaction of vouchers • Case of students who have applied NSFAS for the academic year 2014 and unfortunately were rejected on bases which are not by principle but material conditions which we understood then but now we are under the impression of that, they have accumulated funds which can assist students who are owing the institution and as such they have not received their results and is unjust and hypocritical for us to write examination with other students having hidden academic status (results). • Students with historic debts and debts which were not settled during the course of the year and are still waiting for such settlement to be made, this includes students who have graduated and those who have enrolled for post graduates program. RESPONSE BY NSFAS CEO AND CFO SBUX the system is said to be a piloting system which was given a term of one year and then there will be commission which will review this system, they acknowledged our proposal that we must form part review commission of this system and they agreed to adopt our recommendations if this system will be operating next year, our recommendations are thus; the system for meal must provide allowance weekly and increase the amount with reasonable fee for a living, the system must be free to access the voucher, the system must be user friendly to students living with disabilities, the system must be upgraded such that allowance is awarded in due time, the book allowance must be increased to afford necessary needs of students as it was with system of intelicards and the allowance must be activated immediately after registration. Students who currently owe the institution and are continuing with their academic programs will be settled their debts so that they can access their results and they can write the final examination without burden of unknown results. They advised the SRC to send names of all students owing the institution to the CFO and DHET to can assist those who are not registered and those who have deregistered, they made a commitment that all students who have applied NSFAS and are yet to be funded will be able access their results before writing the Nov/Dec Exam. They have confessed that the scheme doesn’t have sufficient funds to accommodate everyone for funding, which is one of the reason they have centralised the offices of NSFAS so that they can audit the applications and fund deserving students with all required aspects. The NSFAS national office together with DHET officials will be on campus on the first week of November. POSITION OF THE SRC ON THE REPORT FROM UNISA DELEGATION As the newly elected SRC we are pleased so far that after 7 days in the office we have addressed most burning matters to most relevant offices and with a most diplomatic approach which has resulted in our calls been taken into consideration. The SRC will not rest in advocating for the interest of the students as we were elected by students not the management. The SRC has sent the list of students owing the institution to NSFAS and Department Of Higher Education and Training. The SRC led by Mpho Mutobvu is committed to engage the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provincial government and other private sectors for fundraising; this is a project which has been supressed over the years. The December recess will be utilised to do the fundraising and we are having the objective of raising as much funds as possible. To ensure that the battle of students with debts is championed the SRC will also engage with management for possible interventions this is to also ensure that we accumulate much more funds to avoid similar events as what happened this year. SRC DISTANCES FROM THE MASS MEETING ARRANGED BY ANNONYMOUS GROUP The SRC distances from the call by a group of bitter and misguided students which intends to undermine the SRC and general students, the call for mass meeting is not necessary because the purpose of such call is resolved and as the SRC we don’t recognise such group which cannot be traced unless it once existed in the mesuam. SRC makes a call to the University community that all programs of the institution will run smoothly and students must attended classes as we are in the climax of the semester, 2014/15 SRC promotes academic excellence. MR AND MISS UNIVEN The SRC invites all students to the long waited mother of all events MR AND MISS UNIVERSITY OF VENDA ,the event will be hosted by the outgoing Minister of Arts, culture and Religious Affairs Cde Hulisani “007”Ramigo the event will be at the Auditorium on the 25th October 2014 the coming Saturday. CONCLUSSION The SRC noted the support from all students who attended the match to Magistrate Court and we appreciate your effort, the SRC will not rest in dealing the matter of postponement of the case. The SRC acknowledges all delegates who went to UNISA representing students of the University Of Venda. WE SERIOUSLY MAKE A CALL THAT WE ENGAGE IN OUR STUDIES AS WE ARE PREPARING FOR THE EXAM WITHOUT ANY PHOBIA, ALL THE BEST ON THE COMING EXAM. “ACADEMIC EXCELLENCY IN OUR LIFETIME”. “VUUUUUUUUU MFUNDIIIIIIIIII VUUUUUUUU!!!!” YOURS IN STRUGGLE MUKWEVHO “LEMBEDE”CAIPHUS ………………………………………………….
