SRFC Youth Match Reports Sunday 15th December 2013 Stafford Rangers U12s- Lichfield League Stafford Rangers continued the tour of the West Midlands for there 9th away game of the season when they travelled to Rushall based Pelsall Villa Colts in the league shield group game. In very difficult conditions with driving rain & swirling wind Rangers found themselves behind in the first 5 minutes when they lost possession deep in Pelsalls half and got caught on the counter break. Rangers never made any inroads in the remaining minutes in the first half. In the second half Christian Blanchette was upended in the penalty box and James Black levelled the scores. Both teams never really created much but Rangers keeper Bradley Foster-Theniger picked up the man of the match award for his excellent handling in awful conditions Stafford Rangers U18s - CMSYL Alex Soccer Centre 1 Stafford Rangers U18 5 Rangers were made to work very hard in the opening half hour by some slick passing from their fellow league opponents. Most of Rangers early play was based around a solid team shape and high energy to close down. None lead more so in this example than Ben Roche who closed down tirelessly in a bright opening period. Alex Soccer Centre scored first with a tremendous thirty yard strike that flew into the top corner of an otherwise relatively untroubled Wes Hopwood. Rangers rearguard marshalled by Harry Wightman and Marco Matthews had snuffed out any other threats and Rangers worked manfully going forwards too. Jake Nicholls brought out a good save from the home keeper who also held on well to driven efforts from Billy Thorley, Alex Curtis and Jack Edwards. He excelled on the hour saving point blank from Curtis again and when finally beaten by Billy Thorley benefited from a refereeing decision which saw the goal ruled out for an infringement in the build up. However, Rangers deservedly equalised before half time when Curtis beat two players before driving his shot in off the far post. Substitutes Joe Kroll and Max Kiddle made a huge impact for Rangers and neither put a foot wrong in an excellent second period in which Rangers put together some flowing moves, hitting the wood work three times and also scoring four more goals. Wes Hopwood made one good save to his right but it was the forwards who caught the eye through the impressive Jack Edwards and Billy Thorley. Alex Curtis scored his twenty ninth goal of a prolific season just after half time with a turn and volley which flew into the left hand side of the goal. Thorley scored with a well placed header from an Edwards cross. Jake Nicholls slotted home from the edge of the area after bursting clear and Jake Shaw crashed home a strike from ten yards out which hit the underside of the bar before crossing the line. All in all a pleasing performance from Rangers after an enforced break from action the previous weekend.
