:: SRI RICE PLANTING This week we have successfully transplanted rice seedlings into the rice paddy at the Chiang Mai Farm using the SRI method. SRI stands for System of Rice Intensification. It is a method to gain the highest rice yield with the least amount of seed used. A device is rolled on top of the patty to create a 30cm x 30cm grid in the mud. Then one seedling is transplanted in each intersection of the grid that creates straight lines and well laid out rows. SRI requires a little more planning and labor at first than more traditional methods of planting rice, however, it uses a fraction of the seed to produce a more productive yield which means more food for impoverished communities in Burma! #riceforlife #freefulllives #SRI #Burma
