SRINAGAR: Downtown Champions League organisers Saturday announced a six member section panel that will take the duties of holding the trials in different districts of the state to identify young players for the tourney starting next month. The panel will be headed by former first class cricketer Nisar Ahmad Khanday who will have three other ex-Ranji players Irshad Ahmad, Mansoor Ahmad and Showkat Ahmad- for the company to select young players for the tournament. Besides, John Mohammad and Gulzar Ahmad will complete the panel. For Srinagar’s aspiring cricketers, selection trails will be held at Islamia College Ground and Anantnag will be the venue for South Kashmir cricketers. Baramulla will host selection trials for North Kashmir cricketers and Ganderbal will stage it for Central Kashmir. For Downtown cricketers to be part of the league, they will have to register themselves at Downtown Corporate League head office stationed at Rajouri Kadal. The aspiring cricketers have been asked to submit a passport size photograph and their details at the office on Tuesday and Wednesday next week. The dates for the selection trails will be announced later, the organisers of the DCL said. DCL will have twelve teams fighting it out for top honours over the course of 25 days of intense cricketers starting mid August and orgainsers are confident that they will successful in roping top quality cricketers from the state and outside it. The organisers said that two weeks into the concept, they have already been flooded with messages and enquiries from different parts of the valley and some top businessmen have already agreed to be part of the league and have their teams competing in it. “We are getting a huge response from the business community who are more than eager to invest in the league and help us in promoting the game in the valley. Cricketers both young and seasoned one have shown their interest to be part of the league and we are hopeful the DCL will be a grand success and a hit among the cricket lovers of the valley,” CEO DCL Naseer Ahmad told Kashmir Reader
