SSGMs Pacific Research Fellow Priya Chattier recently returned from fieldwork in Fiji sponsored by UNICEF, aimed at assessing the Fiji Department of Social Welfare’s Care & Protection Allowance - a cash transfer programme targeting children in foster or residential care and children in vulnerable households. She found that womens poverty matters not only because of the effects on women themselves but also because of the effects it has on their children, especially children living in female headed households.
