Importance is stressed on two aspects: independent literature making and freedom of distribution. Though at a young stage in technological development and popularity in use, the digital book is and will shape a new contour in the skyline of research, distribution of information and communication. Writers, activists, artists, journalists, photographers, filmmakers and people in other professions can adopt this tool for different causes. In Egypt, the digital book is now being introduced as a solution to issues of censorship and rising printing costs, as well as a tool to better enhance communication through its multilayered mode of engaging the reader. The widespread of digital book production, distribution and readership is inevitable, accelerating in some places more than others. The exciting aspect of such a young tool is the experimentation with its many functions, discovering the possibilities it may ignite. In this digital resource room, we aim to gather readings, publications, debates, surveys and teachings on the technicalities behind digital book production and digital publishing. We also would like to display a selection of experimental books, produced by artists, designers, programmers, techies that are curious to discover the possibilities of digital books, interactive multimedia platforms that guide the reader through various experiences, enhancing their senses, imagining the text, visualizing the author’s vision, all in one place. In collaboration with the Integrated Network Services for Human Rights, Sweden, berlinerpool arts network+mobile archive, Berlin and in cooperation with arttransponder, Berlin, Townhouse would like to call for those interested in contributing their experimentations or writings/readings to the Digital Resource Library in order to make this information accessible to the Egyptian public and further use the information gathered to better understand the transformation of book production and readership.
