STOP THE COMMON CORE INITIATIVE Where to start? We can’t each do everything, but we can all do something. Find out how you can help. Here are some suggestions. Educate yourself: • Read. Research. Educate yourself. • Knowledge is power. Knowledge brings courage. • Download, copy and document important findings concerning the common core initiative. • Learn about the history of education. How did we get here? • Read How to Counter Group Manipulation Tactics by B. K. Eakman or other relevant books. Get involved in your local school: • Read and review your child’s school textbooks and lessons. • Be alert. Question everything. • Meet with your child’s teachers and the school administration. • Make sure the teachers understand you are on their side. • Work with teachers to ensure your child is not exposed to inappropriate material. • Save copies of inappropriate lessons and document any details. Call. Write. Email. • Superintendent and School Board members • State Representatives and State Senators • U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators • BESE Board members • Governor • Pastor and Archbishop (Catholic Schools) • Media and news outlets • Other public relations opportunities Attend community meetings: • We the people will be responsible for stopping the common core initiative. • Show up at every meeting you can attend. Be a voice in the crowd. • Your voice can be the one to inspire someone else to research and take a stand. • The bigger the crowd, the more elected officials will take notice. Network: • Get informed so you can educate others. • Wear a button. Buy a car magnet. • Share what you have discovered and get people talking. • Join Facebook groups like Louisiana Parents Against Common Core. • Join local community groups including political organizations to network and get involved.
