STORY OF A DARK KINGDOM AND A FOOLISH KING An itinerant disciple found a kingdom too liveable a place to leave. The master however thought the land to be dangerous. “Why do you say so my Master”, the credulous disciple pleaded. “Where on earth Sir, can we find Taka Ser Bhaaji Taka Ser Khaaja”? The disciple reasoned. The Master left him in disgust but said, “ Call me, if you are in imminent danger, I might help”. The disciple spent happy days, enjoying the One Rupee Mithai (Taka ser Khaaja). One day the King was adjudicating a case. A newly constructed wall of a building had collapsed and a goat of a poor neighbor was killed. The owner of the building, aided by able lawyers, swiftly convinced the King about the mischief of the mason. The owner of the building was released and the mason taken to the gallows. The hangman’s noose, however, was too small for the wide neck of the mason. He naturally was released and the King looked for a lanky person whose neck would match the circumference of the noose. The disciple was caught and taken to the gallows. The King was kind. He allowed the disciple to say his last wish. The disciple wanted his Master at the scene. The Master was brought and he quickly took stock of the situation. He looked up at the sun; looked at the sky; made some sketches of stars and planets on a piece of paper and then pleaded that he, not the lanky fellow, be hanged, and that too within five minutes. The King got puzzled.” Why should you holy man die”? He pleaded. “We are having a rare astronomical phenomenon within minutes. Anyone ending his life at this auspicious moment goes to heaven. The Holy Man told the King. The King ran to the gallows like a mad bull and the Holy Man swiftly tightened the noose round the fool’s neck. The Kingdom was saved. The Disciple left the land with his Master. **********
