STORY TWO (follow up to story one): Later that same day, I confronted Mike. Hes a smart kid with a lot of energy, but has gotten in trouble for chasing the girls, and teasing the boys in the past. I asked him, Mike, were you calling David a girl? Yes. He reluctantly, but honestly, replied. Well Mike, is there anything wrong with being a girl? I then asked. He thought for a few seconds, and then, honestly, replied: ...no. Then why are you trying to tease David by calling him a girl? What followed was a most honest, and lest helpful, answer. I dont know. I went on to tell him that A) girls are awesome, and B) teasing people, boys or girls, isnt nice. Yea, we grown ups sometimes say silly things to each other, but its always backed by love. After some conversation on the topic, I asked him: Why do you tease David? What followed was an honest, AND helpful answer, ...l was bored. Well Mike, can you try playing with David instead of teasing him when you get bored. Yea, I think so. Ok, well why dont you go do that right now? He did. The rest of the day was incident free from the two of them.
