STRAIGHT TALK: Let me begin with the first Session I attended. Title: MARS or the Massachusetts Association of Regional Schools. Its mission is to promote the best possible educational opportunities for students attending regional schools throughout the Commonwealth. In order to fulfill this mission, MARS studies and seeks solutions to regional problems and provide for closer cooperation among and effective communication between all administrators and school committees of regional school districts. It was formed in response to school districts that sought support with strategic planning, development or expansion of regional districts, updates to regional agreements, use of E & D, statutory vs alternative assessments, budgeting, end-of-year reporting, and executive training. The consultants meet with district leaders and policy-makers to develop a plan to meet a districts specific needs. SESSION 2: Common Core: Effective Institutional Practice. Topics Presented. How to use the Curriculum Framework and PARCC Implementation to change the culture of teaching and learning. Use of the Professional Learning Communities to drive the implementation. How to go into depth into the implementation using Understanding by Design and the role that PARCC and other assessments will pay in the process. I think Ill stop at this point.
