STREET CHILD Brown eyes bright and seeking in a face filled with laughter and yearning grimed by the lack of care I shift my gaze to meet her stare Eyes filled with hope and wondering match a smile and a dimpled cheek her plea saddens my heart that in this play of life this is her part I smile at this child and greet with hello and her grin widens expectantly little fingers wrapped around a tin and I hear a few coins rattling within I hand her a package of sandwich and fruit and her eyes fill with laughter and thanks this little urchin child living on the street for whom I stopped today to greet Did I make a difference at all in her day by my greeting and offering so small will it give her hope of a brighter tomorrow or remind her only of her sorrow. Yes young eyes brown and seeking in a face filled with uncertain yearning so innocent and yet wise beyond her years and as I drive away my eyes are filled with tears her tin placed alongside as she sits to eats her meal filled with thanks and joy and a smile in her heart another day, another meal, another one who cares and she knows that there is a God who answers her prayers.
