STREET OUTREACH FOR TUESDAY JANUARY 13, 2015! Most of these pictures will take you through the downside of homelessness and unfortunately while tents, shelters, and encampments are better than being out in the elements, there will always be that group of people that will ruin and destroy whatever is created for those in need. These pictures are some examples of what started as a small encampment for a few people in need, usually those with full-time jobs that there isnt enough space for in the shelter or those that are stubborn enough to not want to come in and take a bed from someone else in need. The reason I am showing these pictures tonight is because over the last few days we have been working on cleaning the area behind Safe Harbor. Technically its the colleges property but we feel a responsibility to the community to keep it looking a certain way because we are so close to it. There was a hoarder that lived on top of the hill for over nine years as early as three years ago so theres a huge mess to begin with. There were a few people over the summer that abused the property and the donations that were received and taken to the encampment. If anyone is interested in volunteering their time tomorrow between 1 and 4 PM, we will be working on cleaning up the garbage from the top of the hill. Its not a paid job but it will be fun and you will laugh a lot and it is a great way to give back to your community. Thank you.
